A great ending

Today was an extraordinary day! We woke up late and ate lunch and then got another chance to go on the ATV's which was great again! We tried to go up to the beach but weren't allowed. 

We came back and then got ready to get in the car with Katherine Johnson, the owner of Mosaic Farm who is really active in the local Rotary club and does a lot for the community! She's the one that connected Beauty with the ULS and created the opportunity for her to go in 2011. 

We first went to a local preschool started just a few years ago. The problem with education here is that there is no pre-primary schooling, so when children enter primary school they don't know any English and any simple skills so they are already disadvantaged and fall behind easily. Someone was fed up with this and started an amazing preschool. We brought them some fruit and things for the school as a donation because they have a seriously small budget. The kids were so adorable and so sweet, even though we couldn't communicate with them through speaking very well, it was amazing how excited they were to hang out with us! I was really touched and inspired, I'm actually brewing ideas in my head of doing some sort of Odyssey project with them!

Next we went to pick up Beauty. She comes from a very disadvantaged area and doesn't even have electricity in her house. Her family can only afford "pap" which is like corn meal to eat. She was so excited to see us, especially Scott! She's a great leader in her community and so inspiring. She wants to be a dentist when she grows up and definitely knows her potential! 

We then drove to a local church where Scott was going to give his talk, about the Mindsets of course! Tons of teens and a few educators Showed up and the room was full. They really seemed to be soaking in what he was saying even though he didn't have long to speak. A couple of the boys stopped to talk to him after and said they would contact him because they were very interested in what he had to say! It's so admirable to me that students are willing to step way out of the norm here and be so open to change. I hope they might get a chance to come to ULS someday!

After we dropped Beauty off, we went to dinner with Katherine in Stanford, the little town near Mosaic Farm and had pizza again which was really really good!

Now we're back making fires and I think we're all sad to leave in the morning but excited to move on to the next stage in our trip! We go to Cape Town tomorrow for the next 5 days I think!
